Dutch universities accept TOEFL and IELTS for non-native speakers. Some universities may also accept Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) certificates. An NT2 exam is required for the Dutch language proficiency requirement.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system, and narrow houses with gabled facades, legacies of the city’s 17th-century Golden Age. Its Museum District houses the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk. Cycling is key to the city’s character, and there are numerous bike paths. Amsterdam is an obvious pick. It is well-known for its museums, canals, and attractive landscape, as well as the abundance of things to do.

Rotterdam

Rotterdam is a major port city in the Dutch province of South Holland. The Maritime Museum’s vintage ships and exhibits trace the city’s seafaring history. The 17th-century Delfshaven neighborhood is home to canalside shopping and Pilgrim Fathers Church, where pilgrims worshiped before sailing to America. After being almost completely reconstructed following WWII, the city is now known for bold, modern architecture. Rotterdam is in the 7th topmost student city in the Netherlands and the Universities that are in those cities are still maintaining their position in the Top.

Leiden

Leiden is a city in the Dutch province of South Holland. It’s known for its centuries-old architecture and Leiden University, the country’s oldest, dating from 1575. The university houses the Hortus botanicus Leiden Botanical Garden, founded in 1590, where the tulip was introduced to Western Europe. The Museum de Lakenhal displays works by Dutch Masters including Rembrandt, who was born in Leiden. It is a small city, sandwiched between The Hague and Amsterdam. It is a Dutch city famous for being one of Europe’s outstanding scientific centers for more than 400 years.

Eindhoven

Eindhoven is a city in the province of North Brabant in the south Netherlands. Known as a technology and design hub, it’s the birthplace of Philips Electronics, which built the Philips Stadium, home to the PSV soccer team. The Philips Museum traces the company’s design history. It is majorly the place for students due to its upcoming universities in major sectors.

Bachelor degree

4 years (240 ECTS). Students with a VWO diploma are eligible to enroll in one of the intensive programs that an increasing number of universities of applied sciences are offering. These programs can be completed in 3 years (see Section 7.9a WHW). 3 years degree programs typically focus on core theoretical knowledge in a specific discipline (e.g., Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry). 

Master degree

The minimum length of a master’s program is one year (60 credits), but research master’s, teacher training master’s, and programs in engineering, mathematics, natural science, and agriculture are two years (120 credits) in length. 

PhD 4 years.

Undergraduate

Universities tuition fees per annum for academic programs are 6,000 – 15,000 EUR/year (undergraduate course).

Postgraduate 

 Universities tuition fees per annum for academic programs are 8,000 – 20,000 EUR/year (post-graduate course).

Students who wish to study in the Netherlands require exams like IELTS, TOEFL, PTE,  NT2, GRE, GMAT, and CNaVT. These tests are necessary to obtain admission to Dutch universities and a student visa to the Netherlands.

 Students must go through the educational institution that provides the course. Each institution provides detailed information about the procedure to be followed for applying to a program of their choice. For bachelor’s degree programs, students must attain at least a secondary school diploma at the concerned level. Master’s degree courses can be accessed only following the attainment of the bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. 

Each educational institution follows its own admission procedure for entry into bachelor’s degree courses plus other higher studies in the country. Each institution determines its own admission processes and policies within a broad general framework. Students must also have basic qualifications for entry into a particular higher educational course. Nuffic is the Dutch organization that determines the equivalence of the qualifications of international students for entry into a specific course of higher education in Holland.

This scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science as well as several Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences.

The scholarship amounts to € 5,000. You will receive this in the first year of your studies. Please note that this is not a full-tuition scholarship.

As a first-year international student, some universities guarantee first-year international students accommodation. However, you will still need to meet strict deadlines for confirming and paying a deposit to secure your place.

The monthly cost of living in the Netherlands for an international student will be around €800-1200. An average room will cost between €400 and €700, but keep in mind that small towns will generally be cheaper than cities and that the type of accommodation will also have an impact on the price. Be careful so you don’t get scammed.

International students can work no more than sixteen hours a week outside of the summer period. they can work full-time in June, July, and August. As a student, you can apply for and study while on private insurance. International students can earn anywhere between EUR 6-10 per hour as minimum wages doing part time jobs.
