About SAT
SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is one of the most important admissions tests in the United States that evaluate critical reading, writing, and math skills. The standardized test is widely used for university/college admissions in the United States. Originally, the SAT used to called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, later it was called the Scholastic Assessment Test, then the SAT I: Reasoning Test, and now the SAT only. The SAT’s purpose is to measure a high school student’s readings for undergraduate studies, and it serves as a common comparative data point to admission committees for comparison of all applicants. The higher students score on the SAT, the more options of colleges/universities for application and scholarship will be available to them.
Types of SAT
The SAT is divided into TWO types. They are the SAT General Test and the SAT Subject Test.
The SAT Sections
- Reading, Writing, and Language.
- Math (which consists of two subsections, No Calculator and Calculator)
- Essay (only offered during select SAT School Days)
Reading, Writing, and Language
Reading texts will test students’ ability to understand how words matter in shaping, and writing and how informational graphics and the passage are connected. Students will have to read several short passages and answer one multiple-choice question for each passage. Some passages might be connected to other passages and can contain pictures, charts, graphs, and tables.
For writing, its texts will measure students’ ability to edit texts to conform to standardized English conventions. During higher studies students have to write lots of essays, give presentations, and prepare projects, for this reason, writing ability is essential.
Math
